Read Artist Sam Johnson's Story!

In 2006, I decided to register the name Gollywobbles, thinking maybe it was time to be a little more serious about selling my crafts. For years I have enjoyed making crafts as a hobby, and making gifts for family and friends, and I was ready take it to another level. I wasn't sure exactly what to do next, but in time it all fell into place.

I began by participating in my friend's "Christmas Open House" one early December. I had a couple items that did not sell, and I thought what a good opportunity to find out what eBay was all about. I had no idea what I was doing, so I just took my time and listed my first item. When it sold, I panicked thinking, "What do I do now?" Almost right away, I received an invite to join a primitive group, and I had no idea what one was supposed to do once you accepted the invitation to join. I learned quickly that it was a place to share ideas, and cross promote each other's crafts. It did not occur to me that I would make valuable friendships, that I cherish today.

I eventually accepted invitations to join other groups, learned about blogging, opened an Etsy shop, picked up a punch needle, learned how to hook rugs, experimented with different ways of grunging my projects, and learned the beauty of felting with sheep's wool. My heart was always in the colonial era, collecting antiques and collectibles, but I fell in love with making primitives and never looked back.

My passion is creating anything. I like to name my dolls, make dos, nodder heads and critters, and I feel good when they are shipped to a new home. I easily mix patterns and apply them to different mediums. I can feel an urge to make something by looking at a fabric, a new color of paint, a greeting card, or wall paper. If I get a vision in my head, I can work non-stop. I love to paint, sew, needlepunch and rug hook. When I find myself in a slump, I walk out of my studio and work in the yard, do some heavy housework, or head straight to my favorite craft shops. I love to take my time and browse the patterns, books, fabrics and paints. I especially love other artist's work, and look forward to the special dates when they fill their shoppes with new items.

Halloween and Christmas are my absolute favorite times of the year, and in addition to Santas being my favorite in every style, shape and size; snowmen are a close second.
